Artful Exoplanets: Creating Imaginary Worlds: Springfield Museum of Art

About Educational Resource

Springfield Museum of Art partnered with The Dome: Center for Innovation and Clark County Juvenile Detention Center to provide two one-week sessions of summer programming. Artful Exoplanets: Creating Imaginary Worlds uses NASA interactives to teach participants about the universe and generate ideas for art making.

This Program Model was developed and authored by Springfield Museum of Art, with minimal editorial input and review from NASA's Universe of Learning. NASA's Universe of Learning has contributed astrophysics content and subject matter expertise to support the creation of this material.
Other organizations may adapt these materials to meet the needs of their specific audiences. While this Program Model was designed to serve the local audience of the authoring institution, it is shared here as an example for broader use. Users should adjust it as needed and use all or some of the content, as appropriate, for their own needs.

Goals and Recommendations

Goals

  1. To inspire and foster a positive outlook toward science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
  2. To guide students when exploring known exoplanets, their habitable zones, the likelihood of life on those planets, along with creating imaginary life and worlds beyond our own.

Recommendations

The target audience for this program is all age groups and backgrounds.

Consider preparing more offerings than you think participants will have time to complete to accommodate the different ways participants work.
