Cosmic Canvas: Exoplanets Program Guide & Resources
About Educational Resource
Astronomers have discovered thousands of exoplanets—planets beyond our solar system. Some exoplanets are hot and stormy, others icy and rocky, and some look wildly different than the planets within our solar system. With these program resources, participants will learn that:
- Exoplanets are planets beyond our solar system.
- Exoplanets come in many sizes, compositions, and temperatures.
- Exoplanets are often detected using the transit method, when a planet passes between a viewer and a star it orbits.
- Illustrators play an important role in creating models depicting what we think exoplanets may look like, based on telescope data.
