Make the Universe: Pensacola MESS Hall

About Educational Resource

Make the Universe is a group of activities requiring little to no technology to present to visitors. These cart or booth activities are meant to engage audiences of different ages during sidewalk science sessions or specially themed museum days.

This Program Model was developed and authored by the Pensacola MESS Hall, with minimal editorial input and review from NASA's Universe of Learning. NASA's Universe of Learning has contributed astrophysics content and subject matter expertise to support the creation of this material.

Other organizations may adapt these materials to meet the needs of their specific audiences. While this Program Model was designed to serve the local audience of the authoring institution, it is shared here as an example for broader use. Users should adjust it as needed and use all or some of the content, as appropriate, for their own needs.

Goals and Recommendations

Goals

Pensacola MESS Hall created this program model to share the wonders and challenges of space exploration with a variety of visitors and to develop longer term exhibits and activities that promote hands-on engagement and understanding within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Recommendations

Use the Universe of Learning resource Recolor the Universe, as it pairs really well with other light and color activities to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of making composite images that combine different wavelengths.

The audience of this program was targeted toward multi-generational families and all-age audiences at festivals and after-school events.
