Program Guide & Resources: Data and Imaging Processing
About Educational Resource
Scientists rely on computers not only to do calculations, but also to transform telescope data into images. Coding and programming are some of the many methods that astronomers use in order to study the information coming from our space telescopes. With these program resources, participants will learn that:
- Astronomical information and resulting images help inform scientists about phenomena and characteristics of objects in space.
- Astronomical images are produced from data. The data is typically from light collected by telescopes.
- Making astronomical images is a process, a translation of information from one form to another.
